FieldTRAKS Annouces RadMap GIS for Windows Presentation Forms (WPF) and Silverlight
January 5, 2009
FieldTRAKS Solutions annouces the release of RadMap GIS, it's GIS Web Mapping Software Development Kit (SDK), for Windows Presentation Forms (WPF) and Silverlight (WPF/E).
RadMAP GIS is a .NET control coded in C# that provides map window controls that allows customers to integrate dynamic mapping features into their applications. Some of the key features are support for: simple and complex geographic objects using open GIS standards, lat/long and UTM projections, annotation and graphic editing, ability to simultaneously display imagery from multiple Web Map Servers (WMS), and a built-in layer manager that provides controls to naviagate, interact and customize the display of geographic data.
Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Silverlight 2.0 are Microsoft’s platforms for writing Windows desktop applications that can take advantage of the power of the graphical capabilities of modern PCs. Silverlight is Microsoft’s cross–platform Rich Internet Application (RIA) technology for building interactive web content. Both use Xaml (the eXtensible Application Markup Language) to define the user interface. One advantage of WPF and Silverlight is that it’s possible to write code that can be compiled for both environments because Silverlight includes a compact cross–platform version of the .NET Framework, enabling it to support C# and VB.NET and offers a very similar programming model to WPF. Knowing one environment makes it much easier to create applications for the other. A WPF application can be deployed on the desktop or hosted in a web browser.
